Design evolution and provenance

LocalGPT was created and is maintained by Michael Fleischer (Michi0403). It is an independent, local-first engineering project rather than a commercial hosted service.

AI systems have contributed suggestions, code drafts, reviews, and capability reports throughout development. The maintainer remains responsible for architecture decisions, integration, testing, releases, and the user-visible product.

From experiments to maintained boundaries

Several current subsystems began as focused experiments:

  • multi-role AI Councils became explicit team/workflow/runtime-class services;
  • provider experiments became endpoint-qualified routes and a reusable provider-model panel;
  • AI Host research became a provider-neutral .NET control-plane architecture;
  • game prompts became GameDirector plus deterministic frames and actor roles;
  • firmware ideas became transport-neutral plans and approval-separated tool stages;
  • peer communication sketches became the organic 1-Wire identity/capability/spooler boundary;
  • build-pass notes became repository validation policies;
  • DocFX experiments became one shipped site for the app, PDF, and GitHub Pages.

The public documentation now describes those maintained results. Local paths, uploaded archive names, transient pass manifests, and version-specific repair narratives are retained only in docs/internal-notes for archaeology.

Project stance

LocalGPT is built for real use, study, and continued experimentation. Public availability does not imply enterprise support or a promise to preserve every historical UI shape. The project values:

  • local control and inspectability;
  • explicit human authority;
  • practical provider neutrality;
  • durable architecture over demo-only behavior;
  • honest capability reporting;
  • playful interfaces that do not weaken operational boundaries.

Attribution versus authority

Project provenance is important and remains visible. It is not an authentication mechanism and does not grant a person, document, model, database row, or remote peer standing authority inside another user's active session.
